Heartland Equine Therapeutic Riding Academy’s Mission
is to improve the quality of life both physically and emotionally of adults and children of all ability levels through equine assisted activities.
At HETRA we see participants with a variety of disabilities including cerebral palsy, hearing impairments, down syndrome, head injuries, visual impairments, head or spinal cord injuries, autism, and developmental delays. Our participants benefit from therapeutic riding in a variety of ways.
Check out Tenneson’s new blog…”Tuesdays with Tenneson”! Each week Tenneson will be updating you with the comings and goings at the HETRA barn. Be sure to check it out to learn more about Tenneson’s interesting perspective on what is happening in his world!
Without our dedicated Volunteers we wouldn’t have a therapeutic riding program! HETRA is always looking for dedicated and motivated individuals to become part of the HETRA team. To become a volunteer, you DO NOT need to have experience with horses or disability knowledge. Volunteering is a simple two step process!

Please join us in supporting the HETRA Participant Horse Show!
For a child or adult with a disability, opportunities to participate and excel in a social or athletic environment can be limited. However, the upcoming HETRA Participant Horse Show provides this experience to those individuals!!
HETRA participants work year-round on improving core strength, balance, head and neck control, posture and more. This unique Horse Show is an incredible opportunity for HETRA participants of all ages and abilities to demonstrate their horse knowledge and skills in an inclusive and fun environment.
Sponsors still needed! From Class to Event Sponsors, there is something for everyone!
