Horse Course 101

Who:  This course is for people just starting out on their horse journey.  Individuals with minimal horse experience that are interested in learning more about these amazing animals.  Participants must be 14 years of age or older and must complete required participation paperwork.   The class size will be 6-8 participants (a minimum of 3 registered participants will be required to run the class).

When:   The class will meet on a weekly basis on Tuesday evening from 7:30 until 8:30 and run for twelve weeks from January 8 to March 26.   The course will consist of approximately 30 minutes of hands-on activity with the horses and an additional 30 minutes of classroom activities.

Objective:   Learning objectives for this course include improved understanding of horse behavior and communication, basic horse anatomy, haltering, grooming and tacking, and beginning ground handling skills.  Grooming/Tacking and Initial Horse Leading Certifications will be offered along the way. 

Cost:   HETRA Volunteers – $120 (12 weeks)  – Community – $240 (12 weeks)

Horse Course 102

Who:  This course if for people with horse experience including (but not limited to) – current HETRA horse leaders or those that have successfully completed 101.   Participants must be 14 years of age or older and must complete required participation paperwork.   The class size will be 6-8 participants (a minimum of 3 registered participants will be required to run the class).

When:   The class will meet on a weekly basis on Wednesday evening from 7:30 until 8:30 and run for twelve weeks from January 9 to March 27.   The course will consist of approximately 30 minutes of hands on activity with the horses and additional 30 minutes of classroom activities.

Objective:   Participants should come out from this course with a better understanding of horse behavior and communication, advanced grooming, tacking and leader skills, as well as advanced ground handling skills including lunging and ground driving.  Certification will be offered for leader levels as well as lunging. 

Cost:   HETRA Volunteers – $120 (12 weeks)  – Community – $240 (12 weeks)
