Our programs are designed to meet the unique needs of our participants. Sessions are conducted by PATH, Intl. certified instructors and/or licensed therapists to inspire emotional, cognitive, social, and physical growth through interactive and engaging activities with horses.

Adaptive Riding is an equine-assisted activity for the purpose of contributing positively to the cognitive, physical, emotional and social well-being of individuals with special needs.

Our Therapy Services are conducted by an Occupational, Physical or Speech Therapist (OT, PT, ST). HETRA’s Therapists specialize in Hippotherapy and have been specially trained to use the movement of the horse to facilitate improvements in their client/patient.

Carriage Driving is a fast growing sport. HETRA offers participants that do not wish to be or cannot be mounted on a horse the rewards of interaction and control of a horse while driving from a carriage seat.

Veterans/Service Members and First Responders of any age and type of disability are encouraged to explore participation in our programming. We have a variety of programs that are available at no cost to Service Member/Veteran and First Responder participants and in many cases their families as well.

The Life Skills Platform is used to encourage personal mental health growth in the areas of physiological and safety needs, belongingness and self-esteem, and self-actualization. From goals to communication and nutrition to a sense of belonging, Life Skills takes an active approach to mental health by using the horse partnership to reinforce the lesson.

For groups, EAL is an educational approach that facilitates the development of critical life skills. EAL sessions include unique and engaging activities with horses that teach character development and reinforce life skills such as communication, confidence, emotional identification and regulation, teamwork, trust, respect, responsibility, integrity, and perseverance.

Equine-facilitated Mental Health (EFMH) is defined as an interactive process in which a licensed mental health professional working with or as an appropriately credentialed equine professional partners with suitable equine(s) to address psychotherapy goals set forth by the mental health professional and the client.

HETRA also offers English and Western riding lessons to the general public. These lessons are very popular with our volunteers and the families of our participants. All public riding sessions are integrated with our other adaptive riding participants.
